HIGH SCHOOL COACH OF THE WEEK |
 |
Steve Turnbaugh of Hereford High School has been named the Ravens’ High School Coach of the Year for the 2001 season. Turnbaugh received the Ravens’ High School Coach of the Week honor in week eight.
Turnbaugh led the top-ranked Bulls to a 13-0 record this season, including last Friday’s 43-15 victory over Joppatowne High School in the Class 2A state championship. Hereford is the first Baltimore County team to finish as The Baltimore Sun’s No. 1 team.
Hereford completed their third consecutive undefeated regular season and set a new regular season state scoring record with 502 points in 10 games. Through seven seasons as head coach at Hereford, Turnbaugh has a 75-9 career record, and has led the Bulls to the playoffs in each of the last five seasons.
The Ravens’ High School Coach of the Year award is given to one of the eight weekly Ravens’ High School Coach of the Week award winners. Hereford’s football program will receive $1,000.
The Ravens’ Coach of the Year Award has been awarded since 1997. Previous recipients were the late Augie Waibel from Poly in 1997, Eastern Tech’s Nick Arminio in 1998, Pete Pompey from Edmondson in 1999 and McDonough’s Dominic Damico, last year’s winner.
