S Rod Woodson has won AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Ravens’ 12-0 shutout win at Cleveland (10/1). He had eight stops, an interception and a fumble recovery to help Baltimore’s defense record consecutive shutouts – the first team to do so since the 1985 Bears. The interception, the 56th of his career, occurred in the first quarter off Cleveland QB Tim Couch after the ball was deflected. Later, with 1:12 left in the first half and Cleveland on the Ravens’ four, he recovered a FB Marc Edwards fumble in the endzone for a touchback.
Woodson has won Player of the Week eight times in his career, seven on defense and once on special teams. This is the second time he’s won as a Raven (week 2 in 1998).
Woodson is the Ravens’ third Player of the Week recipient this season. He joins DE Rob Burnett (week one), and QB Tony Banks (week two) as Player of the Week recipients. Burnett was also named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September.
