K Matt Stover has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced today by the NFL. Stover kicked five field goals in Baltimore's 15-10 win at Jacksonville, tying his career high (accomplished three times before). Matt kicked field goals of 47, 32, 43, 21 and 24 yards. The 47-yarder was his season long. Last week's contest was his 150th career NFL game. He also had a kickoff into a strong wind that bounced backwards and was recovered by LB Anthony Davis in the first quarter. Stover has accounted for the last 30 points the Ravens have scored. He kicked four field goals in Baltimore's 12-0 shutout of Cleveland on October 1. Stover leads the NFL with 63 points by virtue of his 18 for 20 mark on FGAs and nine PATS. Stover is the fourth Ravens to win Player of the Week honors this season, and Ravens' players have won for offense, defense and special teams in just six games. This is the fourth time in his career (third with Baltimore) that Matt has won Special Teams' Player of the Week. S Rod Woodson won AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Ravens' 12-0 shutout win at Cleveland (10/1). He joined DE Rob Burnett(week one, Defense), and QB Tony Banks (week two, Offense) as Player of the Week recipients. Burnett was also named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September.
