RAVENS SIGNED RB TERRY ALLEN

Saturday - 8/11/2001

Terry Allen VikingsThe Ravens signed RB Terry Allen to a one-year contract this morning. Allen, a four-time 1,000-yard rusher, played in four regular season games and two postseason games last season for the New Orleans Saints for the injured Ricky Williams. He gained 179 yards on 46 carries for the Saints during the regular season. For his career, Allen has rushed for 7,956 yards on 1,986 carries and 70 TDs and has 187 receptions for 1,533 yards and six TDs.

"Terry is a veteran runner who is familiar with Brian's (Billick) system," said Ozzie Newsome, Ravens' Senior Vice President of Football Operations. "He was, in our opinion, the best available option on the free agent market."

Allen started his career with the Minnesota Vikings in 1990 as a ninth-round draft pick, where he worked with then-offensive coordinator Brian Billick from 1992-94. Allen played four seasons for the Redskins (1995-98) and made
the Pro Bowl in1996 when he rushed for 1,353 yards and 21 TDs. The '96 campaign was his third consecutive 1,000-yard season and fourth of his career. Allen played for the Patriots in 1999 and led New England in rushing
with 896 yards and eight touchdowns.

Allen, 5'-11", 208 lbs., is entering his 11th NFL season. He will not play in Monday's Ravens at Eagles game.
